  • Overview

    The Business Systems Analyst provides analytical and technical support to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The position reviews, analyzes, and evaluates the requirements for business IT systems and acts as a liaison between IT and business development.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

    Documents requirements, defines scope and objectives, and formulates systems to parallel overall business strategies.                                                                          

     

    Formulates and defines systems scope and objectives based on both user needs and a thorough understanding of business systems and industry requirements.

     

    Devises of modifies procedures to solve problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operation time, and form of desired results.

     

    Performs analysis of business and user needs, documentation of requirements, and translation into proper system requirement specifications.

     

    Provides consultation on projects and is considered to be the top level contributor/specialist of most phases of systems analysis, while considering the business implications of the application of technology to the current and future business environment.

     

    Demonstrates flexibility to support emerging program needs and priorities.

     

    Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

     

    Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. 

     

    Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers.  Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources.  Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.

     

    EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years related experience of which approximately three (3) years must be specialized, or equivalent combination of education / experience. Specialized experience includes: developing comprehensive requirements specification for complex systems/applications.

     

    CERTIFICATES / LICENSES / REGISTRATION

    Ability to obtain government security clearance

    U.S. Citizens / Green Card Holders only due to government or federal requirement

     

    JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES

    Knowledgeable in the analysis of business and user needs, documentation of requirements, and translation into proper system requirement specifications

    Advanced ability in requirement gathering and elaboration

    Demonstrated proficiency in eliciting user preferences around specific interface behaviors and related functionality

    Ability to be self-motivated and to independently rely on system documentation for learning complex workflows of a customized enterprise change management system

    Exceptional analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills

    Ability to clearly and concisely communicate / explain technical information to a broad range of people with varying levels of technical expertise

    Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

     

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

     

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
