    The Technical Writer performs authoring and updating of Security related documentation, processes and procedures for the Department of Defense (DoD). Supported systems consists of multiple transactional defense business systems and applications. Capabilities supported by these systems include decision support, supply, depot maintenance, item introduction, cataloging, retail and wholesale material management, transaction and routing, warehousing and distribution, strategic prepositioning, performance management, technical data management, procurement and financial processes.



    Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.


    Responsible for the integration of CNI Core Competencies into daily functions, including: commitment to integrity, knowledge / quality of work, supporting financial goals of the company, initiative / motivation, cooperation / relationships, problem analysis / discretion, accomplishing goals through organization, positive oral / written communication skills, leadership abilities, commitment to Affirmative Action, reliability / dependability, flexibility and ownership / accountability of actions taken.


    Interviews Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) and translates complex information into easily understood structured and polished documents.


    Authors and updates IT security end-user documentation.


    Regularly reviews, edits, and proofs documents. Converts document into standard template formats ready for delivery to the customer.


    Reviews, develops, and edits complex written and graphical technical materials, including system configurations, interface control documents, system workflow diagrams, drawings, white papers, studies, and other materials.


    Ensures compliance with industry standards and best practices of style and format; excellent usage of the English language, and overall structure and organization of material to create professional documentation.


    Works in a team environment and is expected to assist other team members as needed.


    Responsible for adherence to qualitative and quantitative standards as established to meet contractual obligations and changing business requirements.


    Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.


    Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. 


    Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers.  Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources.  Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.



    Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in English, Journalism, or Communications and two (2) years’ related experience in Information Security and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



    Must hold a DoD Security Clearance



    Knowledge and understanding of Department of Defense (DoD), U.S. Navy and Marine Corps policy and processes governing the business and systems logistical processes (i.e., supply, depot maintenance, item intro, cataloging, retail / wholesale material management, warehousing, distribution, procurement, data management, financial management, etc.)

    Working knowledge of DoD / Navy / USMC supply, warehousing, distribution and maintenance systems

    Working knowledge with OMB, FISMA, FIPS, HIPPA and other federal regulations and requirements associated with Information Security

    Ability to communicate and translate communication and documentation needs to business and technical teams

    Exceptional skills in researching, writing, reviewing and editing technical documents and other materials

    Proficient operational knowledge of Microsoft Productivity Tools and Microsoft Office applications

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to use correct grammar, spelling and usage of the English language

    Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills with ability to work well with others for the successful achievement of goals

    Detail-oriented with ability to plan, organize, coordinate and execute work

    Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure in situations where diverse demands are involved

    Ability to work both individually and in a team environment

    Ability to adhere to regularly-scheduled business hours


    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.



    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.



    Ability to read, analyze, develop and interpret common information systems security documents. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professiona1journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
