The Epidemiologist – Data Manager supports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) Influenza Division (ID).This positon develops databases and data dictionaries as well as performs and manages surveillance, laboratory, and epidemiologic data. Epidemiologist – Data Manager also troubleshoots problems with data quality or surveillance and study methodology.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for database development and standardization of individual and household case report forms for FluTES.
Creates and maintains a working data dictionary for all programs.
Serves as the point of contact for study sites when questions about data collection and maintenance occur and as the point of contact for data transfer.
Provides a high level of technical expertise in statistical software programming for the management of large, complex volumes of data.
Evaluates analytical requirements based on subject matter expertise to determine requirements for reporting and annual system modifications.
Creates and manages Epidemiologic investigation proposals.
Acts as a lead epidemiologist on the team to identify and conduct investigations of the population and determines feasibility and approach to the epidemiologic investigation.
Proposes and conducts primary investigation of data collected through FluTES, SARI and IISP, including peer-reviewed journal publications, abstract presentations at international conferences, and oral presentations.
Acts as a liaison with surveillance sites to advise on data management and evaluation, ensuring quality of data collected, and provides scientific advice and technical assistance on the development of epidemiologic investigations and scientific literature publications.
Assists others in conducting investigations through analytic and technical expertise using FluTES, SARI and IISP data.
Assists with influenza or related outbreak investigations.
Performs and manages surveillance, laboratory, and epidemiologic data, and troubleshoots problems with data quality or surveillance and study methodology.
Communicates orally and in writing to disseminate information on influenza surveillance and vaccine effectiveness and to support system implementation in new sites, surveillance report writing, and presentation of accomplishments.
Coordinates meetings, and conference calls related to the influenza surveillance and vaccine effectiveness activities.
Summarizes research findings in written documents and presentations. Manages preparation of methods and results sections of manuscripts for internal and academic audiences.
Designs, plans and initiates epidemiologic studies, surveys and investigations.
Evaluates data collection, quality control and data utilization methods used to study epidemiological problems and issues.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to any training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize output.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and Human Resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.
Bachelor’s Degree (M.P.H or M.B.A preferred) in an academic field relating to the health sciences or allied sciences or related fields of study in Biological Sciences and a minimum of five (5) years hands-on experience working in a public health setting.
