The Technical Writer - Lead will lead and participate in the authoring and updating of MARCORLOGCOM related documentation processes and procedures for the Department of Defense (DoD). This position is responsible for mentoring, training, and provides leadership to the Technical Writing team. The Technical Writer - Lead uses product and publishing tools to develop documentation plans and schedules.
Supported systems consists of multiple transactional defense business systems and applications. Capabilities of these systems include decision support, supply, depot maintenance, item introduction, cataloging, retail and wholesale material management, transaction and routing, warehousing and distribution, strategic prepositioning, performance management, technical data management, procurement, and financial processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates, leads, and executes documentation projects and other associated initiatives
Provides leadership, mentorship, training, and guidance to Technical Writing team members and external stakeholders.
Mentors Technical Writing team in the use of products and publishing tools, the development of documentation plans and schedules, and the development of documentation and related training content.
Evaluates and suggests improvements to processes, standards, and guidelines.
Devises and implements methodologies that increase the quality and usability of documentation.
Attends project meetings to keep informed of changes and maintains communication with other members of the project team.
Interviews Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) and translates complex information into easily understood structured and polished documents.
Authors and updates IT security end-user documentation.
Designs and maintains a scalable documentation structure that fully utilizes the documentation tools available.
Works with the Project Manager on client feedback and solutions to improve product information and the customer experience.
Regularly reviews, edits, and proofs documents. Converts document into standard template formats ready for delivery to the customer.
Reviews, develops, and edits complex written and graphical technical materials, including system configurations, interface control documents, system workflow diagrams, drawings, white papers, studies, and other materials.
Ensures compliance with industry standards and best practices of style and format; excellent usage of the English language, and overall structure and organization of material to create professional documentation.
Responsible for adherence to qualitative and quantitative standards as established to meet contractual obligations and changing business requirements.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in English, Journalism, or Communications and six (6) years’ related experience in Information Security and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
Must hold a DoD Security Clearance

Knowledge and understanding of Department of Defense (DoD), U.S. Navy and Marine Corps policy and processes governing the business and systems logistical processes (i.e., supply, depot maintenance, item intro, cataloging, retail / wholesale material management, warehousing, distribution, procurement, data management, financial management, etc.)
Working knowledge of DoD / Navy / USMC supply, warehousing, distribution and maintenance systems
Proficient knowledge and understanding of developing project documents
Operational knowledge of the federal government work environment
Advanced proficiency in document development (i.e., software specifications, user guides, training materials etc.)
Superior technical writing and editing skills with comprehensive knowledge of accepted practices and methodologies

Proficient operational knowledge of Microsoft Productivity Tools and Microsoft Office applications
