The Travel Specialist provides administrative support for the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response (OPHR), Division of State and Local Readiness (DSLR) of the Centers for Disease control and Prevention (CDC). This person prepares domestic and international travel orders to the satisfaction of divisions, branches, teams, and units accordingly. The Travel Specialist receives travel request forms with specific needs and creates travel shell utilizing CDC’s computerized travel system, GovTrip.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Oversees all booking and ticketing for all modes of travel for the CDC COGH and ensures that all travel complies with the Federal Travel Regulations (FTR).
Assists with airline and hotel reservations, as requested, using Omega Travel.
Enters airline reservations into the GovTrip system.
Completes and finalizes all travel voucher information.
Checks official passport and visa requirements and end embassy clearances. Processes visa passport applications.
Processes travel orders, Notifications of Foreign Travel, and cables. Prepares Foreign Travel Notification, and prepares cable for country clearance.
Manages travel workflow by ensuring travel process is followed by all travel staff.
Monitors travel boxes to ensure workflow is moving and consistent.
Amends and modifies travel orders.
Conducts monthly meetings with travel staff to establish priorities, guidance, and policy.
Directs any unusual or controversial work-related issues to the attention of the GTO Supervisor.
Assists travel prepares and/or traveler with travel related issues.
Resolves outstanding issues with travel procedures and related issues after travel is accomplished.
Receives travel requests forms from traveler with specific needs and requests.
Completes and submits travel requests for permanent change-of-duty stations.
Comple5tse and finalizes all travel voucher information.
Prepares travel and upcoming travel reports.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output. Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and coworkers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions to the best of own ability.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Associates degree and a minimum of five years related experience in an office assistant capacity, or equivalent combination of education/experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience utilizing GovTrip is a plus.
